At Building Circles
Our primary focus as a charity is to offer friendship and support to people across Gloucestershire with learning disabilities who are socially isolated and lonely.
We do this with the amazing help from our team of volunteers who give a few hours of their time a month to offer friendship to people with learning disabilities, who are often lonely or isolated.
This may involve simply visiting to have a cup of tea, going for a walk, going shopping, or popping to the pub for a drink and a game of pool - all the normal things in life that friends do together.
In addition we also offer a wide range of activities and events throughout the year - which usually include: Boat trips, Summer Fun Day, Barn Dance, Disco, Skittles and our Xmas Party, which has become very popular.
If you know somebody that may benefit from the friendship from one of our fantastic volunteers or would enjoy our range of social events then please complete the referral form and return this to us.
See our friendship stories for examples of the difference a volunteer can make.
These opportunities come with full training, paid expenses and support from a Volunteer Co-ordinator.
If either of these sound like something you could help with, please contact our office on 01684 850848. Alternatively you can email one of our Volunteer Co-ordinators directly:
Ali covers Cheltenham, Tewkesbury and the Cotswolds - email@example.com
Amy covers the remaining areas of the County - firstname.lastname@example.org
We currently have people waiting in Gloucester, Stroud, Dursley and Tewkesbury so if you have a few hours spare, please get in touch.
If befriending isn't for you, we are also looking for people to go into care homes and chat to their residents. Please contact us for more information if this is of interest to you.
We also have a lady who is unable to get out and about but enjoys listening to people talking. She would enjoy someone who could go in and read to her.
